Tuesday of Holy Week - The Parable of the Ten Virgins

I get it Pete! So today is Tuesday of Passion Week which means according to the reckoning of time during the last week of Jesus' earthly life "Tuesday - the third day of the week" was from our Monday Evening at sundown to Tuesday Evening at sundown.

That's it Lucy!

And today one of the things we remember is the Parable of the Ten Virgins!

Parable of the Ten Virgins
Artist: William Blake
Tate Gallery, London, UK

Jesus said:
"Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom. And five of them were wise, and five were foolish. They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them: but the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept. And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him. Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps. And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out. But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves. 10 And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut. 11 Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us. 12 But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not. 13 Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh."
Matthew 25: 1-13 (KJV)

Easter Week - Holy Monday - Withered Fig Tree

MONDAY OF PASSION WEEK

Pete here: According to the reckoning of time during the last week of Jesus' earthly life "Monday - the second day of the week" was from our Sunday Evening at sundown to Monday Evening at sundown. It can seem confusing (especially to my sister, Lucy) but it really isn't! I'll show you this week!

And when he saw a fig tree in the way, he came to it, and found nothing thereon, but leaves only, and said unto it, Let no fruit grow on thee henceforward for ever. And presently the fig tree withered away. And when the disciples saw it, they marvelled, saying, How soon is the fig tree withered away!

Easter Art! - Resurrection of Lazarus

The Resurrection of Lazarus
Artist: Giovanni di Paolo
Location: Siena, Italy

The Resurrection of Jesus' friend Lazarus happened about a month and a half before Easter. But it is about Easter too because it strengthened Jesus' disciple before He traveled to Jerusalem and willingly gave His life for the salvation of the world.  I mean, what better way to get people to understand that Jesus will raise Himself from the dead than to raise his good friend Lazarus? Pretty cool I'd say!

Jesus said, "Lazarus, come forth!" (John  11:43) and Lazarus - who had been dead for four days - did!!

Easter Art!

Since Easter is less than a month away - It's April the 20th this year! - time to start preparing with some Easter Art!

We won't stay in any particular order - until a few days before Palm Sunday. Then we'll take each day's event in order. But for now let's start with this pretty wood engraving from and old German book of -
